Bass Fishing Techniques That Can Help Improve The Odds Of Making A Great Catch

The sport of bass fishing can provide a great way to relax and despite popular thought by those that have never tried it, fishing can actually be a bit of a challenge. Bass fishing is far more than just dropping a line over the end of a pier or boat and hopping that a fish will bite. Of course this can be a great way to relax and claim you are fishing but this will most likely not provide goods results or much fish. To improve your chances of catching bass there are some basic bass fishing techniques.

Bass can be some of the most challenging fresh water game fish to catch. The basic principle of catching bass or any fish for that matter is to understand the habits of the fish you are trying to catch. Bass tend to swim toward the surface of the water in the morning and later in the evening but tend to lie down on the lake floor during the hottest times of the day. Bass are also a very cautious fish they will not just bite at anything under any conditions.

In order to be proficient at catching bass you need to learn to move slowly and control the motion of the lure or live bait you are using. To be effective at casting and controlling the line and lure you need to cast relatively close to where you are. Casting too far away will not permit you to have control.

Be sure to be as quiet as possible and also make sure that your actions are equally quiet. The lure should break the water quietly. Using a rod with a stiff blank and a flexible tip cast with the wrist and aim slightly past where you intend for the lure to land. Extend the lure a little below the tip of the rod, this will allow for extra momentum.

When fishing for bass off the bottom of the lake it is a good idea to let the lure and light line drop straight in front of where you believe the fish is and let the lure bounce solidly off the bottom of the lake. Then move the lure slowly up and down and keep it as close to the same place as possible. The best way to control the motion of the line and the way it drops is to use split shot. Be sure to put enough shot on the line to let it drop smoothly but enough to prevent the line from moving in the current.

This guide of a general bass fishing technique should provide you with some success. Naturally the more experience you get at this technique the better your chances of catching a prize bass. It is also a good idea to learn a casting technique such as “Flip the cast”. These and other methods are available through many on line fishing authorities.
